Environmental Hazardous Conditions on Chalcogenide Glass

The chalcogenide glasses, arsenic sulfide (As₂S₃) and arsenic selenide (As₂Se₃) are very stable.   According to the best of our knowledge, using arsenic sulfide and arsenic selenide glass below 150°C is safe for handling, storage, and transportation.  As₂S₃ and As₂Se₃ glasses have high stability to atmospheric moisture and crystallization below 170°C.  Safety Data Sheet describes As₂S₃ and As₂Se₃  glasses as non-hazardous and do not absorb through the skin.

Arsenic sulfide and arsenic selenide fibers are insoluble in water, concentrated hydrochloric acid, alcohol, acetone, and gasoline.  These fibers are highly soluble in strong alkaline solutions.

With regard to medical applications, there is no data for the arsenic sulfide and arsenic selenide glass fibers used in vivo.
